The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Ibrahim Idris has directed the Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Zone 2 Command, Onikan Lagos, to investigate the circumstances surrounding the snatching of a Motorcycle from police personnel attached to Ajegunle Police Station.
The AIG is also to investigate the said contribution and the claims contained in a document circulating the social media purporting that the Motorcycle belongs to the Nigerian Police Force, and report back to him.
The Police Public Complaint Rapid Response Unit (PCRRU) which made the disclosure in Abuja noted that it (PCRRU) has intercepted a document by one Maurice Okerenta of Ajeromi Ajegunle, Lagos in circulation on the social media in which the author is requesting residents for contribution towards the replacement of a “lost Police Bajaj boxer motorcycle”.
Consequently, the Police has advised residents of the affected area not to pay any such recovery levy as the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) Ajegunle, Lagos has been directed to stop Maurice Okerenta from further collection of any money from the residents and money already collected/contributed be returned to the owners immediately.

In a statement entitled ‘Re: Document on Purported Recovery Levy For Lost Police BAJAJ Boxer Motorcycle at Ajeromi Police Station, Ajegunle, Lagos’, the Officer in charge, PCRRU, ACP Abayomi Shogunle said preliminary investigation by PCRRU, using the Tracking number of this case is PCRRU999852, revealed that the document in circulation is real and originated from one Maurice Okerenta, a resident of the said area.
“That on 11th of March 2018, at about 9pm, one unregistered Bajaj Motorcycle belonging to a member of the public was snatched from a policeman by a group of persons at Otuniyo Street, Ajegunle, Lagos.
“That the case of snatched motorcycle was reported at Ajegunle Divisional Police HQ, Lagos and investigation is ongoing.
“That the said motorcycle is the property of a member of the public (name withheld) and not that of the Nigeria Police Force.
“That Mr. Maurice Okerenta is a resident of the stated area and not a police officer.
ACP Shogunle said, “The Police at Ajegunle Division have distanced themselves from the said recovery levy by Maurice Okerenta stating that it is an agreement between residents and the owner of the motorcycle who is not a police officer.
“A policeman was taking the unregistered motorcycle earlier intercepted to the police station when the incident happened.
