The West African Examinations Council, WAEC, has released the results of the 2017 West African Senior School Certificate Examination, WASSCE.
In series of tweets on its Twitter handle @waecnigeria, the exams body said out of 1,567,026 that registered, 1,559,162 candidates sat for the examination.
The breakdown shows that 923,486 candidates, representing 59.22% obtained minimum of five credits in five subjects including English Language and Mathematics.
Also, 1,084,214 candidates, representing 69.54% obtained credits and above in six subjects.

Furthermore, 1,243,772 candidates, representing 79.77% obtained credits and above in five subjects while 1,357,193 candidates, representing 87.05% obtained credits and above in four subjects.
The body said that 214,952 candidates have their results being withheld in connection with various reported cases of exam malpractice.
It says the cases are being investigated and reports of the will be presented to the NEC in due course for consideration.
WAEC assures the concerned candidates that they would be informed of the committee’s decisions.
Other statistics show that of the total number of candidates that sat for the examination, 829,853 were male while 729,309 were female representing 53.2% and 46.2% respectively.
