We asked for $30million ransom for Magajin Daura; were in negotiation when Police arrested us – Kidnappers

Thirteen Kidnapping suspects who abducted the traditional head of Daura, the Magajin Daura, Alhaji Musa Umar on the 1st of May 2019 before he was rescued 60 days after in a Kano hideout, disclosed that they demanded the sum of $30million as ransom before he would be released.

They said they were in the process of negotiation over the ransom when policemen swooped on them saying consequently, they didn’t get any kobo.

Luck ran out for the gang when Police Special Forces of the Intelligence Response Team, Special Tactical Squad and other SARS operatives stormed their hideouts and arrested them after rescuing the Magajin Daura.

The thirteen are part of 40 suspects including armed robbers, cattle rustlers, bandits, murder, unlawful possession of arms and communication mast battery thieves paraded at the STS ground on Monday by DCP Frank Mba, FPRO, DCP Abba Kyari, Commander IRT and DCP Kolo, Commander STS.

Speaking during their parade in Abuja, one of the suspects disclosed that some of them received training in the art of kidnapping, combat operations and carrying out terrorists attacks in Libya adding that he (Ibrahim Abdullahi) spent 18 months undergoing the training.

Leader of the kidnap gang that comprised 5 members from Katsina, with 4 from Daura, 2 from Kano and some foreigners, Yusuf Dahiru disclosed that one of them, Sarfillu Abdullahi was in charge of surveillance, who showed the gang, all the houses of the rich men and that of the Magajin Daura before the operation.

He said Bilat Yusuf and Abdullahi Mohammed were the gang member engaging in the negotiation for the ransom before they were arrested.

Speaking at the parade, Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Frank Mba noted that among the 40 suspects paraded were armed robbery and kidnapping gangs that attack Mother Cat Construction Industries, attacked Marafa Community in Zamfara state killing many persons and those that killed a Lebanese in one of their kidnapping operation.

Noting that some of the kidnappers paraded had been arrested in the past and prosecuted for multiple offences, the FPRO regretted that these same killer kidnappers and bandits have several times found their way back to the society to commit further havoc.

He attributed the reason to weak legislations exploited to get them out since there is no uniform legislation at both the states and federal level to deal with the menace.

Among items recovered from the gangs were 9 AK 47 rifles, 6 other assorted rifles and pistols, 283 rounds of live ammunition and AK 47 magazines.

He said that during the operation to rescue the Magajin Daura, chemical materials used for making IEDS and bombs were recovered and grenades of military caliber as well as training manuals for terrorists and other mode of criminal operations.
