Finally, Nigerian Army Begins Operation Last Hold; As troops nab Boko Haram Kingpin in Charge of Benue Attacks

Sequel to Nigerian Army’s resolve to ensure that the ongoing Operation Last Hold in the North East achieves the desired result, additional troops and heavy equipment have been earmarked to beef up those already deployed.

Troops and equipment are already assembling for onward movement to the operation area.

The operation expected to last 4 months entails deployment of additional 4 maneouvre brigades.

The end state of Operation Last Hold is the total defeat of Boko Haram Terrorists to facilitate the restoration of fishing, farming and other economic activities in the Lake Chad Basin general area.

The operation which is a major military exercise has Major General Abba Dikko as its Commander.

Director of Army Public Relations, Brigadier General Texas Chukwu noted that “The senior officer is already on ground coordinating the movement of troops and equipment”.

Members of the general public and particularly residents around troops’ staging areas and environs are advised not to panic on sighting mass movement of troops and equipment as their safety is guaranteed.

The Nigerian Army wishes to reiterate its loyalty and subordination to the civil authority at all times while carrying out its constitutional roles.

Meanwhile, as part of efforts of the Nigerian Army to rid Benue State of criminal elements, on Friday 27 April 2018, combined troops of 707 Special Forces Brigade, Nigeria Police and the Department of State Security Services in Makurdi arrested a key Boko Haram suspect known as Aminu Yaminu nicknamed Tashaku who is believed to have masterminded most of the recent attacks in Benue State.

Following an intelligence report, it was gathered that Aminu has concluded plans with his cohorts in Bauchi, Borno, Yobe and Nasarawa states to launch a major attack on innocent citizens in Benue State.

As earlier stated, Nigerian Army will ensure enemies of peace in the state are brought to justice.

Nigerian Army encourages all law abiding citizens to go about their lawful businesses without fear.

They should also oblige the Nigerian Army and other security agencies with timely information that could lead to the arrests of criminal elements in our society.
