Following a federal government directive that the Nigerian police deploy its personnel to recaptured territory and communities from Boko Haram terrorists in the North East and establish security and civil authority, the Police headquarters is to commence logistics procured and personnel mobilized for the first phase of the deployment tomorrow (Friday).
Inspector General of Police, Solomon Arase made this disclosure at the 2nd roundtable on security stabilization in the North East which held at Force headquarters yesterday saying, “In furtherance to this, massive human and material assets have been mobilized while engagements with strategic stakeholders, particularly the military and local communities are also being pursued with vigour”.
Describing the expected outcome of the 2nd roundtable as one that will serve as working guide for the Police in planning for its deployment for security stabilization, restoration of civil authority and re-establishment of the criminal justice system in the north east, Arase said, “The task that lies ahead of us is to consolidate on what we have so far started”.
He listed the key points to guide the process as, “look at requirements for shared vision; structures that support inter-operability of police/military; systems that support the structure; required skills; staff concerns and agreed deployment criteria”.
Also yesterday the Inspector General of Police flagged off the balloting exercise for allocation of Nigeria Police Force pre/post retirement houses for rank and file of the force in Abuja.
He disclosed that 400 houses have been constructed in Adamawa, Benin, Enugu and Katsina states being the first tranche of such housing scheme to be constructed in the 36b states of the federation and FCT.
According to the IGP the vision to construct houses was premised on the fact that one way of motivating personnel is to ensure that every member of the Nigerian Police force had a means of owning a home at any place of choice in Nigeria.
“The first batch of buildings is specifically built for the Inspectors, rank and file cadres of the force. These categories of police officers form the largest chunk of our workforce, and regrettably live below the welfare line. Hence there welfare is paramount and it is for this reason we are kick-starting the scheme with them” the IGP said.
