The Nigerian Senate has called for the resignation, investigation and prosecution of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation Mr. Babachir Lawal, for allegedly owning one of the companies awarded contracts in the rehabilitation of the North-East.
The call by the Upper Chamber at Wednesday’s sitting arose from the interim report of the ad-hoc committee on the mounting humanitarian crisis in the North East, which was chaired by Senator Shehu Sani from Kaduna Central.
Senate President Bukola Saraki subsequently ruled on the Senators demand that the SGF be asked to resigned and be investigated by anti-graft agencies.

Senator Sani who spoke on the pitiable projects in IDP camps expressed worry that contract awarded by the Presidential Initiative on North East (PINE) contravened several parts of the public procurement acts.
The lawmakers, who reacted to the interim report, criticized SGF involvement in contract awards, saying such is against the anti-corruption stance of the current administration.
They demanded his immediate resignation saying his action violated his oath of office.
Lawal was said to have resigned his directorship of the company, Rholavision Engineering Limited in Sept. 2016.
However, a signatory to the company’s account after he became SGF said he signed and executed the contract, which contravened the public procurement act.
