TROOPS AMBUSH BOKO HARAM TERRORIST’S, CAPTURE GUN TRUCK
***AS NEW GOC 8 Taskforce Division, Brig. General Nani takes over.
 
Following reliable information about movement of remnants of suspected Boko Haram terrorists, troops of 118 Task Force Battalion, 7 Brigade, Borno, laid an ambush for the terrorists on Thursday morning.
A statement from Army headquarters said “The troops laid the ambush about 3 kilometers away from Goneri town, South West of Kukawa Local Government Area, where they encountered the unsuspecting terrorists in 2 gun trucks and on motorcycles and engaged them.
“An unconfirmed number of the terrorists escaped with gunshot wounds abandoning 1 Buffalo Land Cruiser gun truck mounted with an Anti-Aircraft gun, 1,600 rounds of 12.7mm Armour Piercing Incendiary (API) ammunitions, 563 rounds of 7.62mm (NATO) ammunition for General Purpose Machine Guns and 57 rounds of 7.62mm (Special) ammunition.
“The troops further recovered 1 motorcycle, 7 jerry cans of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) and Automotive Gasoline Oil (AGO), a pair of Nigerien Army uniform, 2 Cameroonian telecommunication service providers SIM cards, as well as a pair of the Boko Haram terrorists   Special Forces uniform.
“They also recovered 1 Samsung Galaxy Tablet  and assorted drugs and such as Climax Oxytocin, Tetracyclic HC1 Ointment, Drips and Springe, amongst others.
“Consolidating on this success, the troops are further exploiting the situation while troops of 157 Task Force Battalion are blocking likely escape routes of remnants of the terrorists in Mile 90, Yoyo, Barwati and Kekeno villages.
Meanwhile, Brigadier General Ali Nani has been appointed  as the new General Officer Commanding GOC, 8 Task Force Division, Nigeria Army.
General Nani takes over from the outgoing Acting GOC, Brigadier General Chukwuemeka Okonkwo who has been posted out.
A statement signed by the Spokesman of 7 Division Nigerian Army, Lieutenant Wenke Tonye in Maiduguri said, the Outgoing GOC, Brigadier General Okonkwo thanked the officers and soldiers of the division and expressed his appreciation and gratitude to the Chief of Army Staff COAS Lt. General Tukur Yusuf Buratai for giving him the opportunity to serve in that capacity while thanking God for seeing him through despite the numerous challenges in the division.
In his response, the incoming GOC, Brigadier General Ali Nani commended the outgoing GOC for steering the affairs of the division in its fight to crush terrorists and insurgents out of borno state.
He also appealed to officers and soldiers of the division to work as a family and endeavour to render useful advice to him always in order to serve them and the Nigeria Army effectively by way of giving him maximum cooperation towards achieving the set goals and objectives of establishing the division.
General Ali added that achieving the desired results will only be possible with troop’s commitment, professionalism and hard work while executing their assigned tasks.
The new GOC promised to work with the GOC 7 Dividion , Nigeria Army , Brigadier General Victor Ezugwu,  the Commander,  79 Composite Group, Nigerian  Air Force  NAF Maiduguri, Air Commodore Charles Ohwo to flush the remnants of Boko Haram insurgents in the state and north east at  large.
